Calculations of Rankings by the International Cricket Council
The rankings are calculated according to the weighted average of a player’s performance in the recent matches with the effect of positive performance and negative performance being reduced over a period of time. The maximum rating was calculated out of 1000 and if a particular was able to achieve a rating of 900 was considered to be an excellent achievement. There are different lists made for batting, bowling, and all-rounders. The all-rounder’s performance was calculated by multiplying his batting and bowling ratings and then dividing it by 1000.
For the batsmen s his rating is based on the combination of his batting performance in the match and the ratings of the bowlers in the opposite team and the result achieved in the particular game. And for bowlers, the rating is checked by the number of wickets they took in the game and the scores he gets for taking the wicket of the highly rated batsman in the opposite team and the result of the match, and other factors. There is also a damping factor because of which a player does not get a rating until he has played 20 Test Matches.
