What is the Mankading system of dismissing the batsman at the non-striker end?

Introduction to Mankad rule

The Mankad system or the Mankading System was named after the Indian cricket player Vinoo Mankad. He was born on 12 April 1917 and died on 21 August 1978. Vinoo played 44 test matches for India from the year 1946 till 1959. He was famous because of his opening partnership with Pankaj Roy in 1956 which was a 413-run stand this record was not broken for 52 long years. He ran out a batsman who was backing up from the non-striker’s end because of which the Mankad system was named after him. The full name of Mr.Vinoo Mankad is Mulvantrai Himmatlal Vinoo Mankad and he was included in the International Cricket Council s Hall Of Fame in the year 2021. The Mankading system is a thoroughly legal and fair act in cricket but still, when a bowler dismisses batsmen at the non-striker’s end through this method there is always a controversy because people think this is an unfair system of getting a batsman out. The reason we are providing this information regarding the Mankad system is that it came into the spotlight when Indian bowler Deepti Sharma dismissed an England batsman in the recently concluded series. The name of the English batsman was Charlie Dean.

The beginning of the Mankad system.

The Mankad system raised a great controversy in the year 1947-1948 when India was touring Australia. This incident occurred during the second test match where Vinoo Mankad ran out a batsman backing up at the strikers end Vinoo paused while he was not in his bowling stride and ran out Bill Brown when he was out of his crease. The run-out of Bill Brown frenzied the Australian Media as they felt that dismissing the batsman in that way was not in the spirit of the game. So, this was the reason why the Mankad system came into play and was named after Vinoo Mankad. This Law is mentioned in the cricket Law book and it is legal as Sir Don Bradman also mentioned in his biography that the controversy must not be raised against this Law as when the non-striker is backing up he always gets an unfair advantage to take a run more quickly so the batsmen must be in the crease while the ball is delivered by the bowler.
