What is the International Cricket Council or ICC?
Introduction to International Cricket Council or ICC
The parent branch of all forms of cricket the International Cricket Council often abbreviated as the (ICC) when the International Cricket Council was founded it was first termed as Imperial Cricket Conference in 1909 by spokespersons from Australia, England, and South Africa respectively. The name was then changed to International Cricket Conference in 1965 and then it got its current name International Cricket Council in 1987 and has not been renamed to date. The headquarters of the ICC is in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The ICC currently has 12 full members who play test matches and 96 Associate members which makes a total of 108 members. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the significant body that administers main international cricket tournaments. The most important are the Cricket World Cup, which is played every 4 years, and the t20 World Cup played after every two years. The ICC also selects the Umpires and Referees for all the scheduled Test Matches, One Day Internationals, and the t20 Internationals. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has also made the ICC Code Of Conduct that checks that all the matches are played fairly and in the spirit of the game. The ICC also takes action against match-fixing through its Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU).
Chairman of the ICC
The first Chairman of the ICC was Mr.Narayanaswami Srinivasan who was from India he served for 1 year,136 days from 26th July 2014 to 9th November 2015. The second Chairman of the ICC was Mr.Shashank Manohar who served for 4 years,221 days from 22 November 2015 to 30 June 2020. Then the third Chairman who followed was Mr.Imran Khwaja who was an interim he served for 145 days. Then the third Chairman and the current one is Mr.Greg Barclay who has served from 24 November 2020 to date.

ASSOCIATE MEMBERS: The ICC has other 96 members where Cricket is firmly established but has not been given full membership.
International Cricket Council from 1989- till present
In the year 1990 UAE joined as an associate member.
In 1991 for the first time in the history of ICC, there was a meeting held outside England in Melbourne. South Africa was again elected as a full member of the ICC after the apartheid
In 1992 Zimbabwe was included as the 9th full member of the ICC.
In 1993 with the coming of new technology the system of the Third Umpire was introduced which had video playback facilities.
In 1993 David Richards from Australia became the Chief Executive of ICC and in the same year, the post of Chief Executive was also formed.
From the year 1995 TV replays system was made available with the help of which run-outs stumping could be signaled. by the third umpire using red and green lights.
In 1996 cameras were used to check whether the ball had crossed the boundary and the decision to check whether the catches were taken cleanly was introduced and was referred to the third umpire. And in the same year, Duckworth-Lewis Method was also introduced in which targets were adjusted in the rain-affected matches.
INCOME GENERATION OF THE ICC
The major source of income of the ICC is through the various tournaments it organizes in which all the teams participate namely the ICC World Cup held after every 4 years and various other tournaments such as the ICC T20 World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy. The ICC T20 World Cup is held after every 2 years. The income of ICC is mainly generated from Memberships Subscriptions and Sponsorships. The ICC distributes most of its income to its members. In order to increase its income, the ICC started various other tournaments such as the ICC Super Series which was played in Australia in 2005 and was a failure, and then they decided not to continue it. The ICC’s first edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007 was a great success. The ICC’s present plan is to have a tournament every year and the T20 World Cup every 2 years.

The ICC has established the ICC Awards to honor the best international players over the period of 12 months. The maiden ICC ceremony was held on 7 September 2004 in London. In 2020, ICC announced a special edition namely ICC Awards Of The Decade to honor the best performers and the performances of the last ten years.
