A brief introduction of Mahendra Singh Dhoni
Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a former Indian Captain who is a wicket-keeper batsman. He is given a nickname that suits him well which is “Captain Cool” as he had the ability to stay calm even in the toughest situations of the game of cricket and no matter if he won or lost the game he always has a calm composure. He had captained the Indian cricket team in all formats of the game of cricket be it in test matches, ODIs, or T20 Internationals.
His early life and background
MS Dhoni was born in Ranchi in Bihar and now he lives in Jharkhand. He belongs to a Hindu Rajput family. He is the youngest son of Pan Singh out of three children his mother’s name is Devaki Devi. His mother and father moved to Ranchi from Uttarakhand, Jharkhand where his father was a pump operator in MECON Colony in the Doranda area in Ranchi. His uncle and cousins spell their surname as “Dhauni”.
In Dhoni’s school days, he was a goalkeeper for his school namely DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir School’s football team after seeing his goalkeeping skills his coach Keshav Ranjan Banerjee inspired him to be a cricketer and he wanted him to focus mainly on his wicketkeeping. His wicketkeeping skills helped him to be a wicketkeeper at Commando Cricket Club from 1995-1998.
From the years 2001 to 2003 he worked as a Travelling Ticket Examiner at West Bengal’s Kharagpur Railway Station.
Personal Life of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
He got married in the year 2010 to Sakshi Singh Rawat and the wedding was held in Dehradun just one day earlier they got engaged. They currently are blessed with a baby girl and her name is Ziva Dhoni.
Dhoni is also in the Indian Army he works there as an enthusiast and after spending a few days in the Parachute Regiment he said that he always wanted to join the Indian Army from childhood.
There are a few National Awards under his name
- He received the Padma Bhushan award in the year 2018 which is also called the third-highest civilian award in India.
- In the year 2009, he received Padma Shri which is India’s fourth-highest civilian award.
- In the years 2007 and 2008 he received Major Dhyanchand Khel Ratna Award which is given to honor the sportsperson for achievement in sports.

- He was named ICC ODI Player of the year for the years 2008-2009.
- He was included in the ICC World ODI XI: In the years from 2006-2014 and was selected as captain in 2009, (2011-2014).

- He was selected as a captain and wicketkeeper from 2011-2020 for the ICC Men’s ODI team of the decade.
- He received the ICC Spirit of the Cricket Award of the decade from the year 2011-2020.
His participation in the Indian Premier League
Dhoni signed a contract with Chennai Super Kings for a whopping 1.5 million dollars and was the most expensive player of the year of the first season auctions. Under his captaincy, Chennai Super Kings won IPL titles in 2010,2011,2018 and 2021 and he also won Champions League T20 titles in 2010 and 2014 and was runners-up in the 2008,2012,2013 and 2019 seasons of the Champions League.

- Dhoni is the third captain across all teams to win overall 100 games and the first non-Australian.
- He was the first player to score over 10,000 runs at an average of over 50.
- Dhoni has the most number, not outs which are 84 in ODI cricket.
- He scored 183 runs which are the higher by a wicketkeeper against Sri Lanka in the year 2005.
- Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar shared a 100 runs partnership in ODI against Sri Lanka which is the highest 8th-wicket partnership for India.
- He has the most dismissals in an innings which is (6) and his career total is 432.
- He is the only wicketkeeper to have more than 100 stumpings in ODI cricket. He has done a total of 123 stumpings.

- He has the most number of dismissals as a wicketkeeper in T20IS (91).
- He has the highest number of stumpings which is (34).
